Worthy President's Report - Gary Smith
Fellow Eagles, I want to take a moment to thank all of my officers who served the Aerie last year. Each of them did a great job and stepped up to help in numerous ways not always related to their “job description”. They were a great team and I know they'll continue to be a great asset to #3996. We have three new officers this year: Vice-President Bob Eller (he is returning to this position after his battle with cancer); Treasurer Tela Fountain; and Trustee Mark DeMara. I have no doubt they'll also do a great job for the Aerie and always put the “good of the order” first. Welcome to the team! Our building improvements are still a work in progress. The ceiling tile, painting and carpeting has been completed, but we're still working on picking out suitable chairs for the social hall. May was a busy month and we weren't able to schedule a breakfast to help raise money for these projects, but in June – and for the rest of the summer – we're going to hold Friday night dinners for the cause. Check inside this newsletter to see the details on our first dinner and then add it to your calendar. We're depending on everyone's participation! Finally, I'd like to thank the Eagle Riders for hosting last month's steak dinner. Everyone raved about the food. Did you miss out? Don't worry. They'll be grilling steaks once a month through September. Check out the calendar inside for more info. Enjoy your summer everyone, and don't forget to make #3996 a part of your plans. Fraternally yours, Worthy President Gary Smith |

Eagle Riders News
We just had our first Steak Roast for 2016 and it was a success. We do apologize to the many who did not get steaks as we did not have enough. Last year we ordered less steaks and still had extras. This year we did order more steaks and we still did not get it right. We assure you that in June we will order even more steaks than we did in May so please come, and tell your friends also. One of the reasons we are concerned with having too many steaks is that we have received many complements on the steaks we have been serving. They are fresh and have never been frozen, we wanted to be sure that all steaks would be fresh and we were afraid that if we had too many we might have had to freeze some. Last year we dealt with that by selling the extras to whoever wanted to purchase some to take home. June's Steak Roast will be followed by entertainment again. Thanks to Bobbie and Bruce Saffron for making the salads -they were very good. Thanks to Annette and Noah Caincross for wrapping all the potatoes. Thanks to Buddy and Debbie Hamrick. Jerry and Carol Fulner and Annette and Noah Cain-cross for the loan of the roasters for the baked potatoes. We found the electricity off and on switch now so the potatoes should be done on time for the rest of the season. Noah Caincross did his usual outstanding job as Master Chef, that is one hell of a lot of work and the results, it is an understatement to say, are superb. Jerry Fulner had his hands full keeping track of all the orders and making sure each person got the steak they ordered; as in rare, medium and well done. Karen K was great as a roving trouble shooter and made sure any holes where plugged up thanks Karen. We are lucky to have Kelley Sherwood managing our news letter. Due to personal issues I did not get this article to her by the cut off date and she called me to tell me she would give me more time. Dedication like that is wonderful. I believe our meeting in June will be the 14th and all are welcome. Also it is not necessary to have a motorcycle to join. We passed a motion to let all previous members who have let the membership lapse rejoin for the annual fee of $10.00. ~Jack Bogan |

Because of our limited staff we ask that everyone cleanup their tables when visiting the Club.
It would help us greatly if everyone would throw out their trash, bring their
glasses to the bar and push in the chairs when leaving. Thanks so much!

CHANGES COMING TO THE NEWSLETTER
Members, after much discussion and thought, we decided it was necessary to make changes to the newsletter. Printing and postage are expensive (and postage continues to rise) and we really feel the thousands of dollars we spend on the newsletter each year could be put to better use elsewhere.
Effective January 2016, you will have to choose one of the following options if you wish to continue to receive the newsletter:
1. Receive it by e-mail. Send your e-mail address to VANBURENEAGLES3996@YAHOO.COM and indicate you'd like us to e-mail it to you each month. Please include your name and address so we can find you on our member roster.
2.Read it on our web page at WWW.FOE3996.COM. We will post it near the top of our main page where you can easily find it each month.
3.Pick it up in the club. We will continue to print newsletters for those of you willing to pick it up; however, please send us an e-mail note indicating you're willing to do that - or leave a note with the barmaid at the club telling us that (include your name). We need some idea of how many people are willing to pick it up so we know how many to print.
4. Pay $10 (a year) to receive it in the mail. We know some of you live out of the area or just prefer to get the news-letter by mail, so we're making this option available to you. The $10 won't cover all of our expenses to produce and mail the newsletter to you, but it will defray them by about 80%. If you choose this option, please send a check made payable to the Van Buren Eagles #3996 to 9961 Beck Road, Belleville, MI 48111, Attn: Aerie Secretary.
Remember, starting January 2016, you won't receive a newsletter by mail anymore unless you choose option #4 above, and if you choose to receive it by e-mail or pick it up in the club, please follow the directions in option #1 and #3 above. If you plan to read it on our web page, no action is necessary.
In this era of computers and the internet, we believe we can continue to provide information about the club through our web page and e-mail for the majority of our members, while still making it available affordable to members who prefer to receive it by mail. We also post club information on our Facebook page at Fraternal Order of Eagles Van Buren #3996.
Thank you for your understanding.
