Tournament Weekend #1

4/8/2018

What a fun weekend we had welcoming the 61st Michigan State F.O.E. Auxiliary Bowling Tournament! Friday evening started off with yummy fish dinners cooked by members of our Auxiliary and Aerie, followed by live karaoke provided by Mark and Joelene Brzezinski.

Larry James Live Karaoke was awesome. Larry and Mike stood for five hours playing their guitars and keyboard for the 45 people who signed up to sing - and they never took a break! They know thousands of songs ranging from country to rap, so everyone's musical taste was represented.

Saturday night our members again stepped up to provide delicious steak and chicken dinners, and then the band Southern Heat got us all toe tappin' with their country, southern and classic rock music.

We owe a big round of applause to Larry James Live Karaoke and Southern Heat for doing a superlative job entertaining us this weekend, to the Brzezinskis for providing karaoke, to members of our Auxiliary and Aerie for volunteering to help, and to all our brothers and sisters from other Eagle Aeries for joining us this weekend. We hope everyone takes home great memories of the time they spent with us.

Enjoy these pictures from the weekend.

Kudos to the Auxiliary for making us all feel a wee bit Irish at the St. Patrick's Day event. Who doesn't like homemade corned beef and cabbage? It was excellent, as usual. Thank you, ladies. The food was delicious and the evening was enjoyable.

We'd also like to thank Whitey for providing entertainment all evening. The Irish tunes were a welcome, authentic touch.

If you weren't able to attend, enjoy some pictures from the evening and make plans to join us next year for dinner and a toast or two. Slainte!

Valentine's Dinner

The Valentine's party was lovely! Old Man Winter tried his best to ruin everything with the 9 inches of snow he dumped on us, but Cupid's love won! We had a nice turnout and a very enjoyable evening.

A big thank you to the Auxiliary for all their hard work. The dinner was delicious, as usual, and the decorations were beautiful.

A big thank you to Whitey, too. He's been recovering from surgery, yet he made the trip over the snowy roads to provide us with "music for lovers" all evening.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Auxiliary. We love our Eagle family and friends.

Goodbye 2017, hello 2018! What a fun evening we had bringing in the new year. Good company, good food and a great band. Thank you, Second Wind, for playing a variety of music that appealed to everyone. You rocked, as you always do and had the crowd on their feet dancing right to the end!

We'd also like to thank everyone who bought a ticket and spent the evening with us. We hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Finally, a big thank you to our volunteers for stepping up and helping in so many ways. Your efforts showed. The hall looked beautiful and everything ran smoothly and on schedule.

Van Buren #3996 wishes all our members and friends a new year filled with joy, peace, good health and prosperity. We hope we can all ring in the next year together!

Adult Christmas Party 2017

What a fun evening everyone had at our Adult Christmas Party on Friday, December 15, 2017! The evening started off with a pot luck dinner. It was more like a banquet! The variety and quality of food was outstanding.

Following dinner we held our White Elephant gift exchange, which is always lots of fun. This year people kept stealing an interesting hotdog toaster that apparently no one expects Santa to bring them.

We ended the evening with karaoke hosted by Whitey, and Keith Bruder led us all in a "12 Days of Christmas" sing along.  Enjoy the pictures from the evening and Merry Christmas to all!

Our Aerie held its first ever "All You Can Eat" soup bar on Friday, December 1, 2017, with all proceeds benefiting our building fund. Our furnace needed some very expensive repairs, and our members stepped up big time to help out. The repairs were made and our building is toasty warm now, just in the knick of time! The soup bar offered five delicious soups: Ultimate Ham and Bean, Sunshine Chicken, Loaded Baked Potato, Home Style Chicken Noodle and One Alarm Chili.  In addition, we had an assortment of crackers, breads, muffins, and soup/chili toppings. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success. We appreciate you and your "People Helping People" attitude.

Our REAC group kicked off the holiday season with their Christmas dinner on December 5, 2017, and comments from their members declared it, "The nicest dinner we've ever had." It was so nice because this group is caring and loving. Nancy Fruit willingly offered to prepare the yummy dinner, and Pam Hixon made all the delicious appetizers. Everyone enjoyed the spirit of the holiday and the camaraderie they shared with one another. If you're retired and haven't joined our REAC group, you're missing out on the fun. Check them out; they meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. They'd love to have you join them.  Thank you, Sue DeLongchamp, for snapping the photos, great job!

The Aerie held a special Building Fundraiser Dinner on Friday, November 17, 2017 to raise funds for major repairs our heating system suddenly required. ALL proceeds from this dinner will be used toward these costly repairs. The dinner was a Baked Potato Bar with yummy toppings including chicken in gravy, chili, green onions, broccoli, sour cream, bacon bits, shredded cheese and black beans.  Brownies and cookies provided a sweet ending! The dinner was a hit with everyone and we thank all who attended to help support our cause. Special thanks to REAC for hosting the dinner and all who helped in any way planning, shopping, cooking, serving, and donating for this event.  After dinner, everyone enjoyed karaoke with Whitey, especially many of the children who had come for the dinner! Enjoy the photo slideshow!

Our Diabetes Fundraiser, held on Nov. 4, 2017,  was a big success because of support from our members and community! Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, bid on auction items, and made donations, like the Belleville Area Lions Club, which presented us with a check last night. Thank you for your generous donation, it's much appreciated.

We'd also like to thank Rocky Fortune for the great music! You guys never fail to please the crowd and we're happy you could share the evening with us.

Finally, a big THANK YOU to WP John Watkins & MP Toni Watkins for all their hard work in organizing the event, and thank you also to the dozens of members who volunteered hours of their time to help. We're blessed to have such selfless members. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center will benefit from everyone's generosity, and hopefully, one day there will be a cure for diabetes.

We had an awesome, fun Halloween Party on October 27, 2017! There were so many great costumes; some were scary, some were classy, and some were funny. Here are this year's winners: Lenny Cicotte, Bill & Gloria Richards, and Mark & Joelene Brzezinski. Congratulations everyone!

We'd like to thank Southern Heat for providing our entertainment. You had the dance floor filled all night and played a variety of songs to please everyone. Kudos on a great job!

Finally, we'd like to thank our entertainment committee and their helpers for putting the event together for us. It was a lot of fun and we appreciate your hard work.
