Wine Tasting Party

7/20/2019

W.C. Fields once said, “I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food.” And some of us like to do both!

There was no shortage of wine aficionados at our recent wine tasting party where we got to choose between six varieties of white and red wines. It was a nice way to sample wines we never had before without breaking the budget. The cheese and crackers were a nice touch too, and helped us cleanse our palate in between sips.

We’d like to thank Barb Tomlinson for chairing this event. Take a bow, Barb! Everyone enjoyed tasting the wines and comparing opinions about them with their friends.  We’d also like to thank Diane Wojtyna, Joanne Paton, Michelle Nowak, Ryan Wojtyna, Nancy Fruit, Sue Delongchamp, Diane Moore, our Trustees, and Tony D'Onofrio for their help, along with anyone else that helped behind the scenes. Everyone loved the grape cluster balloons and table decorations. Kudos to whomever made them.

We also want to thank everyone who attended; there were several new faces in the room. We really appreciate having you join us and hope you had a good time. Please consider visiting us again soon.

Finally, we would like to thank Lenny Wojtyna for taking so many great pictures. He has become our resident paparazzi and we know we can depend on him being there to take pictures for us! We hope everyone enjoys them as much as we do.

R.E.A.C.'s May Outing 2019

5/22/2019

Our Retired Eagles Activity Club (R.E.A.C.) headed to Motown recently for their monthly outing. They met at Z’s Villa Restaurant in the New Center area of the city for lunch, before heading over for a tour of the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant.

The Ford Piquette Plant was built in 1904 and is the birthplace of the Model T car. Everyone found it interesting to learn that in the early days of the plant the cars were assembled in a stationary position by hand, and you could buy them in red, blue, and green. It wasn't until the process became mechanized, and they moved production to the Highland Park plant in 1910, that the cars only became available in black. They changed to black because it dried faster and was a better fit with the moving assembly line. (Thank you to Bill Richards for the brief history of the plant.)

We hope you enjoy these pictures from their outing and consider joining them next month. They never fail to do something interesting and have fun. Thank you to Gayle Bellamy, Nancy McFall and Bill Richards for the pictures.

Mother's Day was very special for the women in our club thanks to the Aerie. They prepared a delicious meal for them and washed the dishes afterwards! That’s every woman’s perfect gift.

We want to acknowledge and thank Glenn Ramberg for chairing this event for the second year in a row. He did a great job organizing everything and recruiting the following volunteers to help out: Dave Walker, Janice Eaton, Jim Shrove, Nancy Fruit, and Jeff Gueli. Thank you for your hard work, everyone. Your willingness to help our club is much appreciated.

We also want to thank everyone who came out and supported the event (there was a great turnout), and thank you to Lenny Wojtyna for the great pictures he took. We hope you enjoy them.

R.E.A.C.'s April Outing

Our REAC group ventured to the "D" for their recent monthly outing. They started off by carpooling to Sindbad's Restaurant & Marina for lunch. (A little birdie told us the car filled with all ladies had the most fun on their drive there, and they were still giggling when they arrived!)

Following lunch, the group gathered at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. The tour guide was very informative and interesting, and several REAC members recommend visiting the museum if you've never been there before. It's worth the drive.

Check out these pictures from their outing and see what you missed!
The pictures of the anchor are from the Edmund Fitzgerald. The anchor was lost years before the ship sank and divers were able to recover it.

Kids' Easter Party 2019

4/17/2019

The Kids' Easter Party was a lot of fun and everyone went home sugared up! We’d like to thank the Auxiliary and all of their helpers for planning and hosting the event.

The afternoon started with egg dyeing and cookie decorating, and then everyone moved outside for the Easter egg hunt. Mother Nature was even kind enough to give us sunshine and warmth!

Everyone moved back inside after the hunt and enjoyed their lunch while waiting for the Easter Bunny to come. They didn’t have to wait long before he knocked on the door and everyone clapped and hollered for him to come in. Mr. Bunny (aka WP John Watkins) made his way to the corner and every child had a chance to say hi to him and thank him for the basket of goodies he gave them. (We had a very polite and well-mannered group of kids.) Thank you Easter Bunny for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit our children.

We also want to thank our JOES for helping the Auxiliary with the party, and everyone who donated candy or their time and talents. We appreciate your support.

We hope you enjoy these pictures from the fun afternoon.

St. Patrick's Day Dinner 2019

The Auxiliary outdid themselves hosting the St. Patrick's Day celebration this year. They served more than 140 delicious corned beef dinners, a record! The awesome hall decorations helped everyone get into the mood too, and we were all Irish for a short time.

The Auxiliary and Barb Brasington, their chairperson, want to acknowledge and thank a long list of people who helped make it a success: Jim McGuire, John Watkins, Jim Shrove, Steve Zemper, Mike Cullen, Sue Banners, Joyce Rochowiak, Linda Darr, Lisa Ochalek, Donna Hall, Nancy Shrove, Tela Fountain, Laura McGuire, Toni Watkins, Jim Fruit, Janice Eaton, Tina Grishaber, Kim Powers, and Collette McClinton. (If we left anyone out, please accept our apologies.)

These volunteers are Auxiliary and Aerie members who worked together to make this event possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our club is better when we all work together. Also, thank you Barb Brasington for assembling such a great team and working so hard. Great job!

The Auxiliary also wants to thank Whitey for providing entertainment all evening. Many people commented that it was some of the best music he ever played. Take a bow, Whitey!

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended. We appreciate your support and hope you had a good time.

Please enjoy some pictures from the evening.

Taylor Tucky Band Night

3/8/2019

Everyone enjoyed Taylor Tucky so much at our hoedown last fall that we asked them back for an encore performance recently. They did not disappoint. They were extremely entertaining, delivered a night of fun, and the dance floor was full all evening. Thank you, Taylor Tucky. You are our favorite rednecks!

Perry Zaremba, the band's lead singer, thought so highly of our organization after performing at our club last year that he became a #3996 member. We think he and the band are pretty awesome too, and we appreciate Perry's complimentary words about us to the audience the other night. He encouraged people to join if they weren't already members. Perry takes our Grand Aerie’s reminder that “Every Member Owes A Member Annually” (EMOAMA) seriously!

Of course, the evening wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of our volunteers. Tela Fountain helped organize the event, Sue Delongchamp cooked the delicious spaghetti dinner that was available before the band started, Nancy Shrove made the brownies for dessert, and Nancy and Worthy President John Watkins served dinner and took care of kitchen duties. We appreciate their help and want them to know we're thankful for their assistance.

We'll be having Taylor Tucky back for our second annual Hoedown in August. See y'all then! In the meantime, we hope you enjoy these pictures from the evening.

R.E.A.C.'s February Outing

Our REAC group wasn't going to let the lousy February weather keep them home recently. They met at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti for their monthly outing where they started off with lunch and camaraderie, and afterwards a few of them went over to the Ypsilanti Historical Museum. What better way to bring some sunshine into a dismal winter day?!

Check out the pictures from their outing and see what you missed.

Valentine's Dinner and Dance

Love was in the air at our recent Valentine's Day party hosted by the Auxiliary! It was an enjoyable evening that began with a delicious roast beef dinner followed by music and dancing.

We'd like to thank Whitey for providing the entertainment. He never fails to deliver the perfect mix of dinner music, slow dance songs, and rock and roll.

We’d also like to thank the following people for their help shopping, cooking, decorating, and the many other things it takes to make these events possible: Virginia Truran, Sue Banners, Linda Darr, Barb Brasington, Linda Hunt, Donna Hall, Tela Fountain, Marie Keehl, Bonnie Coughlin, Joyce Rochowiak, and Garden Fantasy. It was a wonderful evening and #3996 appreciates the time and effort you put into making it possible.

We hope you enjoy these pictures from the evening.
