Whitey rounded out the evening with karaoke while we celebrated Brandy's birthday and Keith and Ginger's wedding anniversary. It was another fab night at the Aerie! Enjoy the photo slideshow from the evening.
The pork chop dinner was a big success and we completely sold out. Worthy President Gary Smith wants to thank everyone who came out to support us and buy a dinner. He also thanks his members and officers who volunteered to help with dinner: Bruce & Bobbie Saffron, Ryan Wojtyna, Nancy Fruit, Secretary Jeff Gueli, Treasurer Tela Fountain, and Outside Guard John Watkins. He also thanks Carol Zywicki for donating the homemade cheesecake and apple cake we sold for dessert. They were delicious!! Finally, Gary also wants to thank Chuck Cline for getting us the pork chops. They were a big hit with everyone! Yum. The Oktoberfest Committee met on Monday, August 22, 2016, to continue planning for the event. They are hard at work hammering out every minute detail to make sure you have a great time at Oktoberfest. Details of the event are available on our Events page, along with a button allowing you to purchase your tickets online, if you wish, through our Paypal account. You do not need a Paypal account to use this feature, which allows you to use a credit card to purchase tickets. You may also purchase tickets from any bartender starting on Friday, August 25, 2016. It pays to buy tickets early at a discounted price! Hope to see you there for the fun, awesome food and friendship! The Eagles #3996 Honor Quilters met again on Monday, August 22, 2016. This class focused on learning how to assemble the quilt to get it ready for 'stitching in the ditch'! Class instructor, Michelle Gueli, helped Nancy Godard get her quilt assembled while the rest of us watched to learn the process so we could tackle it on our own. It is quite a process but Michelle instills confidence in all of us and makes it easy! A spray adhesive is used to hold the backing to the batting. Once the backing is secure, the quilt top is adhered to the top of the batting. Michelle advised all of us to then wait a full twenty-four hours before stitching to make sure the spray adhesive is fully dry. Michelle also showed us how we will be stitching on a quilt label to the back of our quilts. The label will identify our group along with the person who made it, if they wish to include their name. Michelle shares all of her tips and helpful hints, from her years of experience, with all of us and we are thankful for that. We love our class meetings and enjoy the camaraderie and conversations with our friends. Information on how to join the class and also on how to receive a quilt is on the Honor Quilters page on our website. Members who wish to join now will be in the next class, which will be starting in the fall, perfect timing for quilt making! If you are interested, contact Michelle at [email protected]. The photos below were taken during Monday's class...enjoy! Eagle members and their guests gathered together last Saturday, August 20, 2016, to watch the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show from the lawn and Pavilion area of the Aerie. This was the first time the F-22A Raptor put on a demonstration flight and it was fabulous! In addition to the Raptor Demo, the Breitling Jet Team, TA-4 Skyhawk, Michigan State Police, F/A-18F Super Hornet, MIG 17PF Fresco, and others performed. The club served up grilled bratwurst and hot dogs with chips. All who came had a great afternoon. We are fortunate to have such close proximity to the Willow Run Airport! Enjoy the photos from the afternoon taken by Josie Scott. Great photos, Josie, thank you for sharing them with us! It was another fun-filled Friday at the Aerie on August 22, 2016. The evening started with the final steak cookout of the year put on by the Eagle Riders. Everyone enjoyed a charcoal grilled New York Strip steak, baked potato, salad, and roll. The food was delicious, the weather was comfortable, and spending the evening with good friends was awesome. From there, the fun moved inside the Aerie to enjoy live music which started at 8 pm. Rocky Fortune performed with special guest Frank Higgins, from Second Wind, sitting in on lead guitar. They rocked out the house performing hits from Neil Young, The Beatles, Badfinger, Joe Walsh, The Temptations, Garth Brooks, Jimmy Eat World, The Ramones, Bob Seger, The Monkees, Young Rascals, The Romantics, Hank Williams, Jr., Jimmy Buffet and more! These guys are versatile! Thanks go out to the Eagle Riders for providing the Aerie with an awesome night of dining and entertainment! Woodstock Revisited 2016, on August 6, 2016, was so much fun and the music was awesome! We want to thank Vinyl Misst and Witzend Band - Clinton Township for joining us for the first time, and Rocky Fortune, The Repeat Offenders and Second Wind for joining us again this year. Everyone liked all of the bands and we heard so many compliments about all of you. You guys rock! We also want to thank Joelene from Cat's Meow Face Design for all the unique face painting and ABC Circus featuring Rusty Bathwater, former Ringling Brothers Clown, for the equally unique balloon hats, animals and other creations. A big thank you to Brian & Josie Selke, too. They were our "sound people" and made sure everything ran smoothly and sounded good. The day wouldn't have been possible without the music and fun these people provided! Finally, we want to thank the dozens of Eagle members and friends who volunteered their help before, during and after Woodstock. The list is long - and we apologize if we forgot anyone - but here are some of their names: Keith & Ginger Bruder (and their team), Nancy Fruit, Jim Fruit, Jim & Nancy Shrove, Tela Fountain, Bob Eller, Lenny, Diane & Ryan Wojtyna, Hailey, Jeff & Michelle Gueli, Bruce & Bobbi Saffron, Jim Wagner, Rich Cetnarowski, John Watkins, Mark Demara, Shaun Mackay, Dave Walker, Sue Banners, Gary & Linda Hunt, Dave McInally, Mark Buxton, Bob, Diane and Elizabeth Moore, Jack Bogan, Noah Caincross, Dianne Krause, Glenn Ramberg, Virginia Truran, and Tricia Mauldin, Sue Delongchamp, Dianne Dakoske and Michelle - our hardworking bartenders. Good job, team! Now get some much-deserved rest! And last, but not least, a big thank you to everyone who bought tickets and spent the day with us. The spirit of peace, love and music was with us! |
