Everyone is thrilled to be learning the art of quilting. Some have experience in quilting already but for many, it's an entirely new skill. The quilts are coming together and it's exciting to see them. Enjoy the photos from the class!
The Eagles #3996 Honor Quilters met for class again on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Everyone is at a different point of working on their quilt, but all are dedicated and working hard to do a super job! As instructor, Michelle Gueli, says, "It's a journey, not a race". She's not worried at all about people being at different points of completion and she handles helping everyone with great attention and dedication. The Friday Night Kitchen featured a new item on Friday, July 22, 2016. It was "Build Your Own Taco Night" at the Aerie and it was a huge success! The tacos were offered in both hard and soft shell and were a bargain price of $1.00 each. After receiving the shells with meat and the option of refried beans, members moved on to the "Build Your Own Taco" bar where they were offered a wide selection of toppings including black beans, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, and more! Everyone enjoyed them, in fact, they were a sell-out! Enjoy the photo slideshow of pics from the dinner. The Classics band rocked the Aerie on Friday, July 22, 2016. It was their first time performing at our Aerie and they were awesome! They wowed all of us with song after song, ranging from the Beatles to Roy Orbison to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. What a great night it was at the Aerie! Enjoy the pics!
The Eagles #3996 Honor Quilters met for the fourth class on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. The class instructor, Michelle Gueli, gave guidance to members of the class who had questions about their quilts. This class focused on cutting the borders for the quilts and getting the borders sewn together and pressed. The pattern for the quilts is a fence rail pattern and it has three surrounding borders. The quilts are really starting to come together now and the excitement is building for everyone. All of the quilts are beautiful, creative and different! The evening always proves to be a fun mixture of socializing, learning, and quilt-making. Michelle makes learning the art of quilting an easy process for everyone. Members have a fun time while creating a gift made from the heart for those in our Aerie who have either served in the past or are currently serving. Each and every quilt is made with lots of love and extra special care! Information on how to join the class and also on how to receive a quilt is on the Honor Quilters page on our website. Members who wish to join now will be in the next class, which should be starting in the fall, perfect timing for quilt making! The photos below were taken during Tuesday's class...enjoy! It was another fun night at the Aerie on Friday, July 8. The evening kicked off with a jumbo loaded baked potato bar for dinner. It was a new idea and proved itself a big hit. At a cost of only $5.00, members were served a jumbo baked potato and then proceeded to the 'fixings' bar where they chose their own toppings from an assortment that included chili, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits, broccoli, black beans, green onions, sour cream and butter. After dinner, many members stayed to have a fun time singing their favorite songs with our karaoke host for the evening, DJ Tom. It was a fun finish to the dinner and another great night at the Aerie for all. The proceeds from the dinner will be used to pay for the building improvements and redecorating we've been doing. Thank you to all who helped with the dinner and also to all who came to support us by joining us for dinner. Enjoy the photos below from the evening! Wow! The social hall looks great with the fifty new chairs that were assembled on Wednesday, July 6th. The chairs were delivered on Tuesday and a call for help in assembling them was put out on Facebook that afternoon. Many hands stepped up to the plate and volunteered their help and the task was quickly completed by early afternoon on Wednesday. Big thanks go out to Bruce Saffron, Lenny Wojtyna, Steve Jones, Tom Fountain, Jim Fruit, and Gary Smith for all your help. As the expression says, many hands make light work and all of you sure proved that true! |
