R.E.A.C. December Outing

“For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne.“

We all recognize the words to that song universally sung on New Year's Eve. It’s basically about friends catching up over a drink or two to reminisce about the times they’ve shared together, and that’s exactly how our Retired Eagles Activity Club closed out 2019 at their final outing. They had a pub crawl!

The group of 20 members met for lunch at JT's Pub & Grub in Belleville, and some of their hardier gang went on to the Bayou Grill and finished up at The Lakeview. That’s the way to end the year!

The group wishes everyone a healthy and happy New Year, and they invite you to join in taking a cup of kindness with them in 2020.

We hope you enjoy these pictures from their outing.

R.E.A.C. Christmas Dinner

Good cheer, good food, and good friendship were in abundance at our Retired Eagles Activity Club's recent Christmas dinner. Nancy Fruit once again went out of her way to prepare the delicious dinner (many thanks, Nancy) and R.E.A.C. paid for everything. A total of 29 members spent the evening together talking, laughing and sharing their time with one another, which is a good reminder for all of us that the best gifts don’t necessarily come in boxes with pretty bows.

R.E.A.C. sent along these pictures for you to enjoy, and they also send wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Our Retired Eagles Activity Club met at Rose's Restaurant in Canton for their November outing. It was the perfect setting to break bread with one another and enjoy the company of all twenty-one people that attended.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we're sure they are all thankful for the good times and friendship they share each month.

Here are a few pictures from their outing. We hope you enjoy them. Happy Thanksgiving!

Our R.E.A.C. group picked the perfect outing for a cool, sunny, fall day. They met at Apple Charlie's Orchards in New Boston where they could shop for cider, pumpkins, apples, and all kinds of delicious autumn food.

After leaving the orchard, they headed over to Iron Mike's Eatery & Tavern for lunch. The food was delicious and 21 “retired" people enjoyed each other's company. We call that a successful outing.

Check out the pictures and see what you missed!

Another month, another awesome REAC outing. The group headed to Pinckney this month for lunch at Zukey Lake Tavern. The sports bar has a great menu and is located on a lake, the perfect setting on a late summer afternoon.

Following lunch, the group caravanned over to the Howell Nature Center to check out some of Michigan's native birds, mammals and reptiles. It was a nice, relaxing way to end the afternoon.

Enjoy these pictures from their outing. Our favorite is the one of the large, majestic Eagle!

R.E.A.C.'s Fall Potluck

Our Retired Eagles Activity Club held their “annual" picnic in our pavilion recently. It was a relaxing way to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. A brief shower blew through, but it didn’t stop them from enjoying the food. Everyone brought a yummy dish to pass and REAC provided the hotdogs and buns, condiments, and paper products.

Once again, Dave and Gladys Walker did a great job setting up for the picnic, and Mike Searl grilled the hotdogs. He is now their Official Hotdog Chef! And everyone rolled up their sleeves to help with cleanup.

Thank you to everyone for making the picnic possible. We're a good team.

We hope you enjoy these pictures from the picnic. A big thank you to Nancy McFall for sending them our way.

Don’t let anyone ever tell you that our Retired Eagles Activity Group can’t keep up. On their recent pub crawl they hit not one, not two, not three, but four different bars!

They started by meeting at Egan’s Pub for lunch, and then ventured over to The Bayou, Lakeview, and Johnny's on the Lake for cocktails. We call that a successful crawl!

We hope you enjoy these pictures from their fun day. Their monthly outings are open to all Van Buren #3996 members, so feel free to join them next time.

We're sharing a few pictures from R.E.A.C.s recent outing on the Detroit Princess Cruise Riverboat. They couldn't have asked for a nicer summer day! The weather was perfect, along with the scrumptious lunch buffet they enjoyed as they sailed the river.

Are you sorry you missed out on the fun? They plan on going again next year, so put it on your calendar now and you'll be sure not to miss it!

Our Retired Eagles Activity Club (R.E.A.C.) headed to Motown recently for their monthly outing. They met at Z’s Villa Restaurant in the New Center area of the city for lunch, before heading over for a tour of the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant.

The Ford Piquette Plant was built in 1904 and is the birthplace of the Model T car. Everyone found it interesting to learn that in the early days of the plant the cars were assembled in a stationary position by hand, and you could buy them in red, blue, and green. It wasn't until the process became mechanized, and they moved production to the Highland Park plant in 1910, that the cars only became available in black. They changed to black because it dried faster and was a better fit with the moving assembly line. (Thank you to Bill Richards for the brief history of the plant.)

We hope you enjoy these pictures from their outing and consider joining them next month. They never fail to do something interesting and have fun. Thank you to Gayle Bellamy, Nancy McFall and Bill Richards for the pictures.

Our REAC group ventured to the "D" for their recent monthly outing. They started off by carpooling to Sindbad's Restaurant & Marina for lunch. (A little birdie told us the car filled with all ladies had the most fun on their drive there, and they were still giggling when they arrived!)

Following lunch, the group gathered at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. The tour guide was very informative and interesting, and several REAC members recommend visiting the museum if you've never been there before. It's worth the drive.

Check out these pictures from their outing and see what you missed!
The pictures of the anchor are from the Edmund Fitzgerald. The anchor was lost years before the ship sank and divers were able to recover it.
