Our REAC group headed south for their September outing, starting out with lunch at the Little Brown Jug in Maybee, MI. Then they headed to Calder's Dairy for ice cream. Yum! The perfect way to end a fun afternoon. Enjoy the pictures!

The Hog Roast was the perfect way to end the summer. The food was delicious, the weather was pleasant, and the company was awesome! A big THANK YOU to the Eagle Riders for hosting such a fun day. We also want to thank Noah Caincross and his team for their hard work roasting the pig. You never fail to live up to the title of "Grillmaster Extraordinaire!" Thank you also to everyone who helped set up, clean up, and handle the dozens of other chores it takes to make the event possible. Finally, thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and supported our Eagle Riders. You rock! We hope you enjoy these pictures from the afternoon. The Hoedown was awesome and we have the photos to prove it! Enjoy this second batch of photos and relive the fun of the day. Make sure you also read all about the Hoedown in the Part One post along with viewing the first batch of photos. Cowboy hats, flannel shirts, varmints, jail, beer, and country music! We wasted no time getting our redneck on at the Hoedown! The highlight of the day was Taylor Tucky and the country songs they cranked out for five hours. They did an awesome job and people danced and sang along to all of their favorites. A big thank you to the band for providing such an entertaining afternoon and evening. Kudos, fellas. In addition to the music, we also had great food provided by our Van Buren Eagle Riders. They grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, and sausage all afternoon to go along with their cowboy beans. Good job, Riders. We can always depend on you to step up and help. Thank you. There were a few varmints that caused problems throughout the afternoon, but our sheriff Gayle Bellamy wasted no time rounding them up and throwing them in jail. We hope they learned their lesson! We'd like to thank Tom Fountain and Thom Price for building the jail for us, and also all the members who helped our sheriff. They made great deputies! It took months to plan and execute this event, and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of dozens and dozens of our members. Committee Chair and PWP Gary Smith wants them to know that he appreciates their help and thanks them for stepping up. He also thanks the businesses and organizations that sponsored our t-shirt and the people who bought tickets and attended the event. It wouldn't have been a success without your participation. Finally, thank you to everyone who sent us pictures, including Inside Guard Lenny Wojtyna, who took more than 100 of them. We are posting one batch of photos with this post and will follow up with a second Blog post with the remainder so keep an eye out for more! Enjoy, everyone! Great food, great company, and the Yankee Air Show! The Family Picnic, on August 25, 2018, couldn't have been any better. The Trustees provided the turkeys and beef brisket and cooked it for hours on the grill, and everyone else brought their favorite dish to pass. No one went home hungry, that's for sure! The Auxiliary made sure the kids had fun activities to keep them busy, including a new playscape they donated to the Aerie shortly before the picnic. Our members stepped up to make sure it was assembled in time, and the kids didn't waste anytime sliding, swinging and climbing on it. Our members also enjoyed watching the various planes flying overhead from the Yankee Air Show. We'd like to thank the Trustees for hosting the picnic, member Bob Boyer for providing two of the hugest turkeys we've ever seen, our Auxiliary for providing a fun afternoon for the kids, our members for bringing dishes to pass, and the many, many volunteers who stepped up to help. Your time and effort did not go unnoticed or appreciated. Thank you! A thank you also goes out to Inside Guard Lenny Wojtyna who took most of the pictures posted here. He did a great job! Enjoy. R.E.A.C.'s August outing was a fun day filled with friendship, food and a boat tour on the Detroit River. The day started with lunch at the Wyandotte American Legion. After lunch, the group went on a Diamond Jack River Tour. The River Tour boat ride was a two hour narrated tour on the Detroit River featuring many sights along the way. It was a fun day for all! R.E.A.C. went on a Pub Crawl for their July outing on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. They started at the Bayou Grill for lunch, then Egan's Pub, next Johnny's on the Lake, and finished up at the Lakeview. A fun time was had by all! R.E.A.C. meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. They plan a fun outing once a month. They welcome new members, so join them at one of their meetings or outings to see what they are all about! Our REAC group is not wasting any time enjoying summer. In early June, they had a cookout in our pavilion. They provided the hotdogs and paper goods, and everyone else brought a dish to pass. No one went home hungry! At the end of June, they headed south to watch the Toledo Mud Hens play Indianapolis at the Fifth Third Field. Baseball and cookouts! It doesn't get much better than that. Enjoy a few pictures from their outings. If you're retired and like to have fun, consider joining our REAC group. They meet the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm to plan their outings. They'd be happy to have you join them. Our That's Amore Cancer Fundraiser, which raised more than $16,000, was very successful because of so many caring and generous people and businesses that donated to the cause. The money we raised this year is being directed to the ChadTough Foundation and their efforts to fund research and raise awareness for pediatric brain tumors with an emphasis on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. The foundation was created in memory of Chad Carr, the son of Jason & Tammi Carr, and grandson of UofM Coach Lloyd Carr. Chad died in 2015 from the rare form of brain cancer. We were honored to have Jason and Tammi Carr attend our fundraiser and speak about the ChadTough Foundation and the importance of raising money to find a cure. We all share their goal of ending childhood cancer. Thank you, Tammi, for speaking to us that evening. We'd like to thank Rex and Linda Combs and their team for all their hard work in making this fundraiser possible. They have worked tirelessly for years to raise money for pediatric cancer, resulting in more than $260,000 they've managed to raise so far. Of course, their success wouldn't have been possible without help from the many businesses and people who donated items for the silent and live auctions and also donated money – including Nico & Vali's Italian Restaurant, O&W Inc., West Side Distributors, the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers, the Green Bay Packers, Carol Krycia, and many, many others. Thank you for your generosity. We also want to thank everyone who attended the fundraiser and won auction items. We know how busy everyone's lives can be, and we appreciate the time you took to spend the evening with us and bid on the many items we had available. We appreciate our very own Eagle member Clyde “Whitey" Allen, too. He donated his music services for the evening, and played into the night afterwards so everyone could dance. Thank you, Whitey! Finally, we'd like to thank our Aerie & Auxiliary brothers and sisters. Your help and participation brings to life our “People Helping People" motto. The world is a better place when we all work together to help one another. Enjoy the photo slideshow with photos from the evening! This was the final weekend of the 61st Michigan State F.O.E. Auxiliary Bowling Tournament, and all we can say is that it was an honor to host such an awesome group of ladies. They were so friendly and fun to hang out with that we felt like we had known them for years. We have to thank our Auxiliary for hosting the tournament, our Aerie and Auxiliary members for their help, and our employees for working so hard to keep us all happy. We also want to thank Mystro Entertainment for Friday's karaoke and Cruisin' 57 for Saturday's live music. People were on their feet dancing both nights. Our entertainers are awesome! This was a memorable two weeks for #3996, and we hope the bowlers took home good memories of their time spent with us as well. Come back to visit with us anytime! Congratulations to the tournament winners! |
